The Christmas Song(Winter Song)
1979
Angel

This'll probably be the only non-hit, all but unheard tune that'll ever show up on this blog...but when I heard it...well, once in a while you hear a song and think 'Just why isn't this one on the top of the charts...or, in this case, Why isn't this one as much of a classic as (Pick a beloved Christmas song.)

The Christmas Song by Angel is most definitely in the latter category...and not only did the song fly under the radar, so did the band....Ever heard of 'Angel? Thought not. And considering who discovered them, they should have owned the charts.

Gene Simmons, who as we may recall, played bass for a little band named 'KISS' went to a night club, heard them playing and was summarily blown away by their music

Give it a week or few, and they were signed up with Casablanca Records...the same label KISS was signed with. Angel wore all white...an intentional and opposite nod and contrast to the black-garbed KISS

They immediately began creating music. It'd be nice to say 'Creating A Legend' but it didn't happen...Angel never really found real commercial success, but they did grab themselves a loyal cult following. They released Five albums, and the tenth track on the forth one...White Hot...was called The Winter Song.

Except it had originally been named 'The Christmas Song'. And trust me on this, it's not only a good little Christmas tune. It borders on awesome, to the point that I wonder why it isn't on easy listening and Oldies stations' playlists every year when they switch over to 'All Christmas Music All Christmas' around Thanksgiving or there-abouts every year. But it's not...for some reason it stayed under the radar.

But 'Angel' did make a video. and thanks to YouTube we have it preserved for posterity.

So Enjoy! The best Christmas song that you've never heard. 'The Christmas Song (Winter Song) by Angel.
